Inspiration
At SF Maps, we believe that one never has to settle, and looking at first-year students, we realized they need help navigating. Mainstream map services failed to meet the mark, so we decided to make a solution.
What it does
SF Maps offers a more personal experience for students, having a design built around their class schedule, making an automatic route towards not only the place where the buildings are but also where the classrooms are.
How we built it
We used frontend tools such as React, tailwind, HTML, typescript, CSS, and the Google Maps API to construct a personalized map for the user; designing tools like Figma helped us produce the best result. Finally, we hosted our web application on Vercel.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into different types of problems, for example, time constraints, learning new languages, and first experiences with the Google API
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As a group, we are very proud of our results since it was the first time we worked together as a team, along with being able to present the best way to navigate around campus.
What we learned
We learned new techniques for building and designing web applications.
What's next for SF_Maps
In the future, we aim to increase our user base to create new and exciting features that use crowd-sourcing to make our application more adaptive. Innovation will always continue as long as SF Maps exists.
