Inspiration

Our project was inspired by the glaring lack of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education globally, especially the inadequate representation and support for women of color and non-binary individuals. Personal experiences with the healthcare system highlighted the urgent need for change, driving us to develop a more inclusive and accessible solution.

What it does

Lilo stands as a beacon of accessible and evidence-based SRH education and services. Our mission is to encourage users to grasp their sexual rights and access culturally competent care. Through Lilo, users gain access to local clinics, hotlines, and providers, along with insight into accepted insurance. Our AI Chatbot provides tailored support, while we demystify misconceptions with clear and concise explanations. Features like peer-reviewed articles and educational videos enrich the learning experience.

How we built it

We began with extensive UX research, encompassing secondary research, user interviews, and competitive analysis. This process helped us grasp user needs and pain points, leading to the development of 5 user flows. Our team members, Anne and Idalis, transformed this research into sketches, wireframes, high-fidelity screens, and a prototype. By leveraging design best practices and AI technology, including our GPT with assistance from Yasmeen, we crafted a user-friendly solution.

Challenges we ran into

Time constraints posed challenges, limiting our ability to include all planned features and conduct usability testing for the mobile app. Additionally, none of us had technical coding skills, adding to the challenge. Led by Gabby and Monica, our project managers, we crafted a project roadmap and timeline, ensuring efficient progress. Their updates throughout the day kept us aligned and motivated, despite the challenges we faced.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite challenges, we developed a solution addressing a widespread issue. Seeing our visuals come to life through the prototype was incredibly rewarding for the entire team.

What we learned

We learned the importance of diverse team perspectives, empathy for user needs, and effective communication. Regular check-ins ensured alignment and decision-making clarity throughout the project.

What's next for us

Looking ahead, we plan to conduct usability testing to refine our platform further, add social features to foster open discussions, expand multilingual options for broader inclusivity, incorporate more educational videos, and launch podcasts for on-the-go learning.

Lilo strives to empower every individual to take control of their sexual and reproductive health, bridging gaps in education and access with empathy and innovation. It is your go-to guide for compassionate and confidential support in sexual and reproductive health!
