Inspiration
Experiencing childhood in a developing and socially traditionalist nation like India, we, have confronted these issues now and then. Thus, we understand, that it is very critical to get sex education at the correct age – virtually, plainly and quickly. On the off chance that by any means, the information is given, it is passed on in an unremarkable and exhausting way, frequently prompting negligible conversations. Now and again, sex and social predispositions lead to superfluous separating of data. We believe the correct mindfulness around these subjects can emphatically affect the wellbeing and prosperity of adolescents while permitting them to settle on educated choices. Taking motivation from this, we chose to make 'Sex.ed' to make Sex Education intelligent and available.
What it does
Our App takes the awkward out of sex ed. Real information in fun content gives you all the answers you want to know about sex, body, and relationships. We choose to harness digital media's power to provide young adolescents around the globe with medically accurate, age-appropriate, affirmative, and honest sex education they can access directly online—regardless of where they live or what school they attend. The App helps in systematic learning, enhanced interaction, and is available 24/7 even if your school hasn't opted to teach you this module. The App includes unique features such as a "symptom checker," " schedule an appointment, " etc. In the future, we intend to extend our audience by introducing more languages. We are incredibly passionate about our mission, i.e., we aim to educate by providing 100% accurate information.
How I built it
We used different technologies ranging from graphic designing tools, web development tools, scripting languages, and different APIs to fabricate 'Sex.Ed'. Our web application was built using ReactJS to consolidate various highlights which would empower user to partake in tests and participate in important discussions. The tests would assist students with widening their comprehension and obtain mindfulness. Utilizing our discussion, users can pose personal questions and get their questions cleared from specialists.
The web application includes a conversational chatbot which would respond to inquiries of clients saving their obscurity. The client can make a profile to follow their learning progress and set objectives for learning. They can impart their advancement to their friends accordingly constructing a wellbeing network which shapes significant discussions around sex, security, assent, wellbeing and prosperity.
Challenges I ran into
The major challenges we faced while tackling the problem were : Lack of available resources Verifying conflicting information from multiple sources Striking a balance between simplicity and effectiveness Abstracting information depending on age-groups Creating an anonymous place for users.
Our team faces some family emergency and power cut since we are living in rural area, but we still managed, great experience tho
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We created a safe and easy to use app for Students, parents, and teacher to talk about one of the biggest taboo in a 3rd world country like India. It amuses us that even though India is once of the fastest developing countries in the world which progressing at an exponential rate yet every parent/ teacher hesitate to talk about sex, I am proud of the step my team has taken towards a better society.
What I learned
In doing research content curation and furthermore development of this project we learned a lot about various aspects of making PWA and chatbots. This projects also taught about a lot of stigmas and various issues people in the country are doing and the lack of knowledge on the internet. We also learned various statistics and numbers relating to sexual education which were astonishing and they really brought, the scale of this problem, into perspective.
