Inspiration

Emergencies can happen anytime, and access to timely help can save lives. We were inspired to create EchoHelp to empower individuals and communities with a simple, accessible platform that bridges the gap between those in need and those ready to help.

What it does

EchoHelp is a real-time emergency response platform. Users can:

  • Report emergencies instantly.
  • View and track incidents on an interactive map.
  • Connect with nearby volunteers and responders.
  • Access medical records and emergency contacts.
  • Receive live updates and notifications.

How we built it

We built EchoHelp using:

  • Frontend: React, Tailwind CSS, TypeScript
  • Backend: Planned with Node.js with WebSocket support for real-time updates(Under development)
  • Map Services: Google Maps API for live tracking
  • PWA Support: Vite with vite-plugin-pwa for offline capabilities
  • Hosting: Netlify for fast, scalable deployment

Challenges we ran into

  • Implementing smooth real-time updates without performance lags
  • Ensuring accessibility and responsive design across devices
  • Handling geolocation and map clustering effectively
  • Managing state synchronization between local cache and live data

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Built a fully web responsive, user-friendly emergency platform
  • Integrated live tracking and notifications
  • Designed a clean, modern UI that feels intuitive
  • Enabled quick reporting and efficient filtering of emergencies

What we learned

  • Real-time data handling requires careful optimization
  • User experience in critical apps must be clear and frictionless
  • Progressive Web App features can greatly improve accessibility
  • Collaboration and iterative testing are key to success

What's next for EchoHelp

  • Adding multilingual support
  • Integrating AI-powered incident detection
  • Expanding volunteer networks and responder tools
  • Launching mobile apps for iOS and Android
