What it does
SetuHub is a hyper-local human-network engine that connects people within a radius for:
- Instant help requests (HelpNearMe)
- Local impact events (ImpactEvents)
- Real-world social engagement (Moments)
- Missing person alerts
- Urgent blood requests
It turns a user’s surroundings into a real-time support system.
How we built it
- React Native + Expo for a cross-platform mobile interface
- Golang microservices for backend performance
- NeonDB (PostgreSQL + PostGIS) for precise radius-based filtering
- Redis for caching and speed
- Firebase Cloud Messaging for real-time alerts
- SendGrid for email flows
- Cloudinary for media storage
- Expo Location + Google Maps API for accurate location data
Challenges we ran into
- Ensuring accurate and fast radius-based geo-targeting
- Establishing trust and verification for emergency posts
- Handling inconsistent GPS accuracy across devices
- Avoiding empty-feed experiences during early user adoption
- Balancing real-time performance with device battery constraints
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- A fully functional hyperlocal help and impact engine
- Smooth integration of geo-queries, real-time notifications, and media uploads
- An intuitive UX that makes community action extremely simple
- Building something that can genuinely save lives and spark community change
What we learned
- Optimizing PostGIS for hyperlocal queries
- Designing trust, moderation, and safety systems
- Building for real-world reliability where speed matters
- Creating interfaces that drive real community engagement
- Understanding how technical design affects user behavior
What's next for SetuHub
- Reputation scoring system for trust
- AI-assisted moderation and spam detection
- Analytics tools for community and local authorities
- Expansion into rural and underserved areas
- Partnerships with NGOs, hospitals, and emergency networks
