Inspiration

Moving to a new city is a difficult and scary process, especially for younger people who are actually living alone for the first time (after college). Trying to budget your own finances can be challenging, and when trying to look for places with another person, it is often very difficult to communicate.

What it does

This website solves that by providing a platform that allows for live communication and updating when viewing properties. It also lets users connect their bank accounts too allow for the platform to analyze the spending categories and provide financial advice.

How we built it

I used Svelte for the frontend and SpacetimeDB for the backend/database. In order to get data, I used a real estate API and downloaded apartment data. I also used figma for most of the design and animation.

Challenges we ran into

Hosting a live connection for all the users. I often ran into issues where not every part synced causing large breaks in logic and design to occur.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I feel I did a good job at creating a functional application that can actually provide value. It provides real financial advice using the Gemini API and helps finds actual real estate listings based on bank statements.

What we learned

This was my first time using both figma, svelte, and spacetimeDb. It was a good experience growing my available techstack, and I also learned how to utilize ai APIs to my advantage.

What's next for Settlr

I want to allow for connection with a real banking app rather than just the NessieApi. Also getting a better API that could pull real estate pictures as I had to download pictures that don't actually line up with the real listing.

Notability

I used notability throughout the hack for prototyping my designs and writing out flow charts for my ideas. I then put my initial ideas into figma to provide a base to create the design and look of my website.
