💡 About the Project SettleSight was born out of real frustration. I’ve seen how confusing and draining it can be when things go wrong — a freelancer doesn’t get paid, or a client feels let down. Most people don’t know where to turn, and legal help is usually too expensive or intimidating. I wanted to build something that makes resolving disputes feel less like a battle and more like a conversation. Something fair, accessible, and human.
🌱 What Inspired Me I’ve experienced both sides — as a freelancer and as someone hiring. When trust breaks, things get tense fast. I kept thinking: What if AI could step in as a neutral, fair voice to help people sort things out? That idea stuck with me. It wasn’t about replacing lawyers — it was about giving people a place to start. That’s when SettleSight really started to take shape.
⚙️ How I Built It I built the frontend with React and Tailwind CSS to keep it clean and user-friendly. The backend runs on Node.js, and the heart of the platform is OpenAI’s GPT-4, which acts as a neutral mediator. Users can share their side of the story, and the AI guides them through possible resolutions — helping clarify the issue, suggest next steps, or just make them feel heard. I deployed everything using Netlify and Render, and used Firebase for user authentication and secure case data handling.
🧠 What I Learned This project was a deep dive into both tech and empathy. I learned how to write AI prompts that feel natural, how to design for trust, and how important it is to keep the user experience grounded in real emotions. More than anything, I learned that technology isn’t just about solving problems — it’s about helping people feel supported while they solve them.
🚧 Challenges Along the Way One of the biggest challenges was getting the AI to stay neutral — especially in emotionally charged situations. I spent a lot of time refining the prompts to avoid bias and create a fair experience. Another tough part was designing the flow so users feel safe opening up. But every rough patch led to better decisions and a more thoughtful product.
🚀 The Vision SettleSight is just the beginning. My hope is that this kind of tool can make conflict resolution more accessible — not just for freelancers and clients, but in many everyday situations. If we can make fairness feel approachable, we can help a lot of people move forward with less stress.
