Inspiration
Settle Smart is a data-driven decision tool created to help Maryland residents, students, and newcomers find the best places to live based on real, meaningful insights. Built for Terrapin Hackers at the University of Maryland, our project transforms publicly available data and API-powered metrics into a comprehensive, easy-to-understand overview for every county in the state. Many people looking to move struggle with the same problem: Too much information scattered across too many websites. Our solution brings everything together. Settle Smart uses a combination of open-data sources, APIs, and curated datasets, analyzing five essential quality-of-life factors: Average Weather, Cost of Living, Crime & Safety Levels, and School Quality & Education Access. Users can quickly view county overviews or compare multiple counties side-by-side. Our clean interface and visual scoring system make complex data simple, accessible, and actionable. We built Settle Smart because Maryland is an incredibly diverse state economically, geographically, and culturally. Choosing where to live affects safety, finances, education, commute times, and overall well-being. We created Settle Smart so people don’t choose blindly. They choose confidently. Smarter Choices.
