Inspiration
We were mostly inspired by general civilisation games such as catan. Artistic inspirations included jean giraud.
What it does
Set in the stone age is a survival game, requiring food, shelter and fire to stay alive through events such as winters and famines, while also allowing players to clear spaces in front of them to produce seeds etc to give themselves a more prosperous life. Against this backdrop, players are allowed to trade and attack eachother, culminating in followers. Followers are a form of personal army who attack and defend for you, put it is necessary to feed and provide shelter for them to keep them alive. Other mechanics such as rotten wood and poison berries make trading dangerous as players could give useless or even dangerous materials. Last alive wins.
How we built it
We drew around 100 cards of characters and events. Every card was hand-drawn, with basic resources such as food, stone and wood having similar basic designs, with special features such as putting together two woods made a picture of fire. Other cards were more special. Followers, which are used to attack other players were each uniquely drawn, and although generally stone-age themed, varied from wolves with fedoras to ducks! Each mat where players can place their fires, shelters etc were also hand drawn landscapes, and these each followed different art styles.
