Inspiration

When we first stepped inside the HackDFW building, we realized how lucky we are to be at an event like this - having the access to learn and apply ourselves with the support of sponsors. Because of this, our group was hard-set on devoting our time developing something that can benefit those who don't have the opportunity/access to events where they can garner knowledge easily.

What it does

Our simulator game will be built with java, using a maven project to scrape google for a user-entered keyword for the most frequently asked questions for that specific keyword. It will then generate questions based on those queries and present it to the user as a quick and efficient "exam." Once the app measures the user's knowledge on the certain topic, it will further show them information and graphics from the queries so they can immerse themselves with their chosen topic.

How we built it

We are building sesame sim through Figma with a minimalistic UX design, in the future planning to implement our backend code to improve the game.

Challenges we ran into

As most of us are beginner coders with little to no background in coding, it was very difficult progressing into detail into our project. Knowing where to start is always a difficult task, but especially in a fast-paced environment where time is of the essence. We also found it difficult to find each other accountable for our individual tasks, an internal approval process and fundamental critique is important for a team to progress.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Being able to self-teach one another on our separate tasks was something profound to us.

What we learned

How to properly use Figma, javafx/swing, operating maven projects, web scraping, machine learning, etc.

What's next for Sesame Sim

Further development of our application and completion of graphics/UX design. Attempting to implement our javafx gui and javascript backend to web scrape info into our web app.
