ServeLocally

ServeLocally is an open source web application to help match organizations with volunteers. It was originally created for http://weserveseo.org/ weServe Southeastern Ohio, by Kelly Creative Tech. The core of the site has been forked into its own open source application called ServeLocally. There is a good deal of information at http://servelocally.org/We built ServeLocally on top of the Django Web Framework and Python. We use Twilio to power the voice and SMS service. [Dial (740) 281-2809 or send an SMS message to search directly] We built SMS and telephone searching into ServeLocally so that it would be simple for potential volunteers with limited or no internet access to find opportunities. The telephone interface should also prove useful to vision imapred volunteers. This is a new feature, and we're currently soliciting feedback from users who need this. Data is input directly by the agency posting the listing, and weServe staff (and volunteers) can easily manage which agencies have posting privileges. We're committed to the future of ServeLocally, and we hope that we can have dozens of volunteer match sites across the country, with several more features in the coming months after the competition.
