Inspiration

Millions of African artisans struggle to find customers and build trust. Word-of-mouth referrals dominate, leaving talented individuals invisible and customers unsure of quality. We saw this gap and envisioned a platform to bridge it.

There are between 30,000 to 300,000 artisans per country in Africa. However here are the following challenges when finding an artisan

Difficult to find artisans without referrals
Lack of trust when dealing with new artisans
Poort customer satisfaction due to quality of service
Customers are hesitant to pay upfront for service

What it does

Introducing Serv, the mobile app connecting customers and artisans with an escrow-based trust system. Customers browse verified artisan profiles, request services, and securely pay through in-app tokens. Payment is only released to the artisan upon satisfied completion, ensuring quality and peace of mind.

How we built it

The app was designed in Figma, and we built is using a no-code tool called Adalo,

Challenges we ran into

ur biggest challenge was crafting the perfect escrow system. We brainstormed, researched, and iterated, ensuring fair outcomes for both artisans and customers.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully integrated an escrow system with tokenized payments, creating a smooth user experience. This innovative approach sets Serv apart and empowers both sides of the marketplace.

What's next for Serv

We'll conduct targeted user testing with artisans and customers to refine Serv's features and value proposition. Our goal is to launch a pilot program, demonstrating Serv's impact on trust and economic activity in the African artisan community.
