Inspiration
Managers rely on fragmented tools to organise clubs. They have to take on many roles and use different apps like Instagram, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets to communicate with members, track payments, and manage events. This friction means fewer runs happen and fewer people stay active. New runners struggle to discover and join clubs because information is scattered across social media, group chats, and word of mouth. This lack of visibility creates a barrier to entry that stops people from building a consistent running habit.
What it does
SERUN brings everything a running club needs into one place, removing the friction that stops people from running, so more people can stay active, consistently. Managers can create runs with templates and split members into skill groups. For members, it's one place to see their training schedule, routes, and pace groups ahead of a run. For people looking to find a new club, SERUN reduces the fear of the unknown and helps them find a club suited to their skill level, lowering the barrier to starting a healthier, more active lifestyle.
How we built it
Our first step was to set up an AGENTS.md to guide the process, dropped into the default expo project meant iterating was smooth quick and easy, allowing us to focus on defining user experiences, finding bugs, and wrestling with xcode. We created our initial list of features, had claude suggest some easy wins, then created a priority list which we unleashed our agents on. We monitored, making sure it stayed aligned with our architectural vision, and stepped in when needed. We also worked in parallel, testing and implementing some code ourselves.
Challenges we ran into
XCode is pretty challenging to work with, we spend lots of time wrestling with configuration problems, developer profiles, etc.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The fact that we built anything in 4 hours is something we're very proud of. The fact that it also works is a nice touch too.
What we learned
Claude Code can make things a lot quicker, but it can't replace our brains (yet)
What's next for Serun
Keep building the app, find some users, and get on the app stores 🚀
