Inspiration
We wanted to create something like LinkedIn that was tailored more to undergraduate students, while maintaining maintaining the feeling of a social network.
What it does
It allows you to get a head start into the professional world and learning more about networking and applying for internships/jobs.
How we built it
We build this web application using the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.JS, React, & Node.JS). We used Git with GitHub so that multiple people were able to work on various pages of the site, including frontend and backend.
Challenges we ran into
We realized that a lot of features that we wanted to implement were not possible in our given time scenario. We also had issues with authentication, such as session cookies. We struggled with GIT due to version control when multiple people were working on the same pages.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We we're able to get authentication and authorization working. We were also able to construct a well-built frontend while using proper MongoDB structure (schemas). We were also able to make sure that everyone on our team was actively contributing, and nobody was being left out due to there being nothing to work on.
What we learned
We learned how to learn new full-stack technology, such as Bulma, MongoDB, & React.
What's next for SERT: Social App for Students
Since we weren't able to implement functionality for a variety of features due to a lack of time, we would like to finish implementing the features that we had to skip over due to the lack of time. Additionally, we would like to add some "luxury" features including a automatic internship/job scrapper with notifications, likes + comments on posts, saving jobs, profile pictures and better profile configuration.
