Inspiration
As a builder always exploring the intersection of tech and humanity, I asked myself: What if curiosity, not content, drove online connection? Series was born from that vision — a space where AI helps humans explore ideas, form connections, and grow intellectually together. In a world of noise, we wanted to build a network that values questions, discovery, and meaningful interaction over mindless scrolling.
What it does
Series is the AI-powered network for human curiosity. Users start thought-provoking questions or topics, and their personalized AI agent — trained on their interests and values — curates intelligent responses, surfaces insights from Sonar, and connects them with like-minded people exploring similar ideas. It’s like social networking meets Socratic dialogue, driven by real-time research and collaborative reasoning.
How we built it
We built Series using Next.js, TailwindCSS, and Supabase for the core experience. At its core, Perplexity’s Sonar API powers the reasoning engine behind every user’s AI agent — enabling smart exploration, contextual knowledge, and dynamic conversation threads. We also used LangChain for memory and agent chaining, so conversations evolve as users go deeper into topics.
Challenges we ran into
Reimagining a social platform without traditional feeds or status updates forced us to rethink everything — from onboarding to interaction flow. Building curiosity loops that feel natural while showcasing AI’s power was another challenge. Balancing personal insights with public conversations also meant we had to design for nuance, not virality.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a working prototype that allows users to launch ideas, receive deep insights, and engage with others in curiosity-driven threads — all powered by AI. We’re proud of how intuitive the experience feels despite its complexity, and how it sparks meaningful engagement right out of the gate.
What we learned
Curiosity is a more powerful social glue than we thought. When people engage over ideas — not just photos or posts — the quality of connection skyrockets. We also learned how powerful Perplexity Sonar is for real-time research, reasoning, and synthesis — it gave our product the intelligence it needed to feel magical.
What's next for Series
We’re launching a private beta to refine the experience with real curious minds. Our vision is to make Series the home for thoughtful networking — where people come not to scroll, but to explore ideas, ask bold questions, and connect through curiosity.
