Inspiration
Stress and burnout are rising problems among students and professionals. Many people struggle to manage their productivity and well-being, especially when relying on manual planners or rigid break schedules. We want to help users build healthy habits and prevent exhaustion by making self-care and productivity smarter, more personalized, and easy to adopt. Serenity automates break recommendations, mood analytics, and calendar sync, providing a calming companion that encourages healthier work-life balance—without requiring users to journal or do extra paperwork.
What it does
Serenity is an automated productivity and stress-management platform integrating Google Calendar, mood and sentiment analytics, and calming audio experiences. Users get smart recommendations for breaks, optimal focus periods, and stress-reducing activities—delivered through a modern, distraction-free dashboard. The system seamlessly analyzes your calendar and mood, recommends personalized SerenityBreaks, and even provides calming audio at suggested times. No manual entry: everything is passive and automated.
How we built it
We built Serenity with a React + Vite frontend styled using Tailwind CSS for a clean and modern experience. The backend is powered by FastAPI and connects smoothly to the Google Calendar API for real-time scheduling and logic. Our sentiment and mood analytics leverage Gemini and GPT-4 for intelligent break timing, while ElevenLabs provides soothing audio. Notion is integrated for passive data capture, and all logic is API-driven for scalability. A calming dashboard and recommended breaks keep the user experience frictionless.
Challenges we ran into
Integrating multiple APIs for calendar, sentiment analysis, and audio was challenging—especially to keep login, permissions, and user privacy smooth. We spent extra effort harmonizing real-time updates from the calendar and background mood analysis. Designing passive workflows (with no journaling or manual entry) required custom logic and careful user flow testing to keep things truly automated.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a fully functional MVP connecting Google Calendar, mood analytics, and break recommendations into a unified dashboard with real-time events. The break scheduling and calming audio integrations work end-to-end, giving users actionable, automated self-care prompts without manual effort. The passive experience is unique and valuable.
What we learned
We learned how to blend multiple APIs (Google Calendar, GPT-4/Gemini, ElevenLabs, Notion) together for real automation, design intuitive dashboards for productivity and well-being, and the critical importance of user privacy and frictionless workflows. Building for users who prefer passive, automated data capture—without writing or journaling—challenged us to invent smarter ways for self-care.
