Due to the pandemic, feelings of isolation have spiked resulting in mental health issues. We wanted to explore how we could help those struggling with mental health issues using music therapy.

What it does

The website allows for people to cope with feelings of sadness, frustration, etc. with the help of music therapy. Once clicking on their mood, they can get access to a Spotify playlist which will play tracks to lift their mood.

How we built it

We built the website using HTML and CSS, and we accessed the playlists through Spotify. We then hosted the website on Firebase.

Challenges we ran into

Initially, we wanted to access Spotify playlists through the Spotify SDK/Web API, which was still in beta mode. Due to our lack of experience with handling APIs, we were not able to access Spotify music through the means of the SDK. Additionally, we wanted to add a chatbox feature in our pages using JavaScript, however, we could not finish the chatbox given the time we had left.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we learned more about databases, especially the usage of Firebase. We are also proud that we could import the Spotify playlists successfully.

What we learned

We learned how to host websites using Firebase and polished our Web Development skills in the process. We also learned how to communicate properly despite living in different time zones.

What's next for Serene

We want to add chatbox features so that people who are using the app can also chat with each other to feel less alone.
