Inspiration
Serei@ evokes ser (“to be” in Portuguese) while also recalling sereia (mermaid), a symbol of transformation and the mythical allure of instinctual truths.
“Serei@: O Feminino Submerso” (I Will Be – The Submerged Feminine) is a sensory dive into mythical female figures, guardians of ancestral waters inspired by Brazilian folklore.
It began as a sound project and evolved into a visual manifesto — a fashion ritual where matter is molded as an offering, intuition becomes language, and the body emerges as a conduit of invisible knowledge.
This world-building project unfolds as a journey of becoming, where metamorphosis and intuition guide the emergence of a wild self. It honors the untamed feminine through ritual and ancestral knowledge that reconnect humans to nature. Themes of age, beauty, and wisdom are reimagined in their rawest, most authentic forms.
Drawing inspiration from Women Who Run with the Wolves and Brazilian folklore, Serei@ dares to explore what it means for a woman to awaken her instincts and embody the power of feminine archetypes.
What it does
A multidisciplinary project merging sound, performance, and visual art. It explores myth, identity, and transformation through AI-enhanced visuals, original soundscapes, and performative storytelling.
Collaborators:
Natalie Nilsen-Nygaard – Acrobat & Performer
Juli Deak – Flute
How we built it
The project began with sound experiments using AI tools to create base soundscapes that evolved into musical compositions produced by me (Nicole). I collaborated with flutist Juli Deak, integrating her recordings into the score.
From the music, a three-act performance emerged:
Act 0 – The Ritual
Act 1 – Submersion
Act 2 – The Call
Act 3 – Return to the Surface
I collaborated with acrobat Natalie Nilsen-Nygaard, using her movements as material to generate AI-based extensions of the performance. I generated images and animation in Midjourney + Freepik and Upscaled it in Freepik.
Challenges we ran into
Blending AI-generated and real footage proved challenging, particularly in achieving coherence between textures and movement. Experimenting with AI sound elements also required sensitivity to decide what served the narrative and what didn’t.
Accomplishments we’re proud of
Serei@ began during a Culture Moves Europe residency, where I trained in AI for sound. It later became a performance at Linjen 13 Festival, and an experimental music video showcased at Brazilian Immersive Fashion Week during Rio Innovation Week.
After this is it became a lab where I teached how to build Sound Worlds, based on this project at AixDesign in Amsterdam, how to build sound worlds (including using Eleven Labs for making soundscapes - documentation here: https://www.thunderboomrecords.com/posts/alien-collaborators)
The physical set design, inspired by the video, was later exhibited at Unmute Exhibition at Värmeverket Creative Hub in Stockholm, an initiative supporting underrepresented artists. The project also received funding for an immersive installation combining performance and video for the exhibition’s opening.
What we learned
How to build a multidisciplinary world out of Images How to build a physical scenery based on Ai images, generated in Freepik How to prompt AI tools more consistently How to blend real and synthetic imagery New approaches to editing and upscaling visuals
What’s next for Serei@
Currently in development at the Experimental AI Residency at Cloudwalk.io, where it will culminate in a finissage at the end of November. The presentation will feature the real Serei@ set design, alongside the experimental music video, a light and sound installation, and an immersive physical environment, where an oracle responds to the audience.
Hopefully be part of Chroma Awards!
