Inspiration
SeraFlow was born from a personal struggle—long work hours, constant screen time, and eye strain that made it hard to focus during the day and even harder to fall asleep at night. I needed something simple: a way to pause during the day to rest my eyes and breathe, and a calming meditation routine at night to help me unwind when my eyes hurt too much to sleep. Nothing existing felt tailored to this problem… so I decided to build it.
What it does
SeraFlow helps users balance work and wellbeing, especially for those with long hours of screen time, with two core features:
• Work Mode: An 8-hour work session timer that sends gentle reminders every 30 minutes to rest your eyes with a guided 45-second breathing exercise. This helps prevent screen fatigue and keeps your mind steady throughout the day.
• Rest Mode: Short daily meditations and bedtime breathing sessions designed to relieve tension, soften eye strain, and support a smoother transition into deep, restful sleep.
At its core, SeraFlow is specially designed to help people with heavy screen use recover their focus, reduce stress, and create a healthier balance between work and rest.
How we built it
I designed SeraFlow with a minimal, calming interface—deep purples, space-like gradients, and soft animations.
- UI/UX created in Figma
- Sound and voice tracks generated with Figma Make
- Breathing animations synced to 4-1-4-1 timing Logic planned for future implementation: interval triggers, modal flows, progress tracking, and customizable settings.
Challenges we ran into
- Crafting voice scripts that perfectly match timed breathing cycles, ensuring the narration aligns seamlessly with inhale, hold, and exhale durations.
- Designing a calming experience that feels supportive, not disruptive, during work sessions.
- Balancing minimal UI with enough features to feel helpful, without overwhelming users.
- Creating soundscapes that enhance meditation and breathing exercises without becoming distracting.
- Designing a dark theme that is both aesthetically pleasing and eye-friendly—critical since the app is intended for users experiencing eye strain from long screen time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- A clean, cosmic-inspired interface that feels gentle and modern
- A breathing system synced precisely to inhaling, holding, and exhaling
- A concept that genuinely solves a personal, relatable problem
- A brand identity—SeraFlow—that feels warm, premium, and comforting
What we learned
I learned that small daily habits—like 30- or 45-second resets—can have a significant impact on reducing eye strain and managing stress.
I also gained insight into designing for wellbeing, especially in dark mode: pacing, tone, color, audio, and micro-interactions are just as important as the core functionality. Every detail contributes to a calming, supportive user experience.
