Inspiration
We noticed a lack of applications that utilized a phone’s capabilities in geolocation and communication software in a manner that protects the phone user in dangerous situations. We aimed to make an app that utilizes this software to give people a sense of security.
What it does
Sentry is an app that uses the Courier API to send texts to a designated list of emergency contacts created by the user. Sentry uses Swift’s long tap gesture as a way to indicate when the user is in danger. Once the user releases the sentry button a timer is activated. The timer serves as an indicator of when emergency services will be notified.
How we built it We built the app using Swift and Nodejs.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into challenges when creating the backend and connecting the backend to the swift application.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to get the app fully functioning within a 36-hour window which we were not expecting.
What we learned
We learned how to use technologies such as geotechnologies, Courier, and how to connect an app to a backend.
What's next for Sentry
We plan on continuing the development of Sentry to release the app on both IOS and Android devices eventually. Furthermore, we plan on adding new features like real-time media collection when someone is in danger.
