Inspiration

I'm Pratyush, a freshman in high school, and I built this project because it represented something very close to me. After reading about thousands of people getting killed every year due to machine accidents, I decided that I needed to do something about it. I was very hung up about the problem and how it was affecting innocent people today. I did some research on different prevention strategies used and found that today's fault detection systems are extremely outdated. I wanted to help these factory workers in any way that I could, so I built a program using MATLAB and Python that could help detect early faults in machines before they become serious. I believed that if I built a program like this, I wouldn't have to hear about any more saddening factory stories that inspired me to build Sentrus.

What it does

Typically, factory machines produce sound. While today's Machine Malfunction Detection systems focus on physical attributes to find errors, my solution taps into the niche market of audio analysis. It accurately finds anomalies in the machine's sound! Because of the original use of the LSTM framework, Sentrus has an average of 97% testing accuracy, creates industrial scalability, and lowers cost and maintenance. Uniquely, Sentrus has robust cybersecurity systems to protect sensitive industrial data. These factors are unseen anywhere else in the industry today.

How I built it

Using the LSTM Autoencoder framework, I believed a small prototype would be necessary to gain attraction. Paired with a successful business model, I started implementing code. I used Python and many modules and libraries including Librosa and Keras. I hope to train my program on MATLAB and build UI for deployment. Overall, I spent a lot of time thinking about how to proceed and build a project worthy of what it can achieve.

Challenges I ran into

I ran into problems when I started building my business proposal. I didn't know how to make it as sleek and informative as possible to attract attention and possible investors. I ended up researching how to make startup pitch decks informative and aesthetically pleasing. Also, I ran into issues when coding the actual program. In retrospect, I think everything worked well now that I'm done with my project. I wanted to cater this app to specific factories, but now we have ended up rebranding towards all manufacturing industries and small businesses.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm excited to have prototyped, researched, and developed a rudimentary MVP product that has the potential to revolutionize safety standards in the machine industry. My system's accuracy and reliability, at 97%, represent significant accomplishment at this stage of progression. However, since my product is at its earliest stages, I wasn't able to present it for the Learn It Global hackathon, but was able to present my full business proposal.

What I learned

Through the development of Sentrus, I gained valuable insights into the complexities of sound analysis, anomaly detection, and real-world implementation challenges in industrial settings. I also deepened my understanding of the importance of collaboration and innovation in tackling complex problems. Most importantly, I learned the value of hard work and thinking outside the box to solve a problem that has been unfocused on for years.

What's next for Sentrus:

Moving forward, I aim to further enhance the capabilities of Sentrus through continuous refinement and optimization. I plan to explore additional features, such as predictive maintenance capabilities and integration with IoT platforms, to provide comprehensive solutions for the evolving needs of the machine industry. Additionally, I seek to expand our reach and impact by collaborating with industry partners and stakeholders to deploy Sentrus on a broader scale. Ultimately, the goal is to gain the essential attention and social traction it needs through Learn It Global to propel itself higher. I wish to leave an impact on the industry with Sentrus and hope people worldwide will see how essential my mission is to create a safer world.
