Inspiration
We were inspired to do this project because we noticed the recurring issue of forgetting items at home and wanted to design a backpack that would be able to keep track of items at all time. Moreover, we made the backpack ressemble an AI assistant similar to JARVIS which would make the experience more interactive.
What it does
The backpack has several features that allow you to scan items in and out, while keeping track of an inventory so you know exactly what items are inside the bag. It will also notify the user if they try to leave when certain items are missing or if the temperature is too hot. There is a screen display that shows exactly what items are in the bag and in which compartment. There is also an LED light that will illuminate the bag compartments
How we built it
- Uno R4, LED, TFT display, IMU and temperature sensors
- Python, OpenCV, Gemini API 1.5 Flash, JSON
Challenges we ran into
- Connectivity issues
- tried using raspberry pi but it wouldn't connect
- AI model not detecting items properly, not keeping track of inventory
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- wireless connectivity to laptop which means the user has freedom
- Accuracy of AI detection model
- Voltage dividers
- Various features
What we learned
- Learned how to incorporate Gemini API to develop an innovative solution
- Learned how to use Grove sensors
What's next for Sentinel Sack
- local model because it should be used in survival scenarios
