Inspiration
We were inspired by the growing need for smarter home security and stronger digital privacy. As AI becomes more integrated into our daily lives, users need control over what their AI assistants can access and what actions they can perform. We wanted to explore a privacy-first approach to intelligent home security.
What it does
Sentinel HomeGuard AI is a privacy-focused smart home security concept designed to help users understand security events, receive AI-generated summaries, and maintain control over sensitive actions. Its core principle is simple: AI should assist users without taking away their control. The system is designed around permission-aware access, event analysis, and user authorization for sensitive actions.
How we built it
Our planned prototype combines an HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frontend with a Python backend. The interface is designed to display security events, summaries, privacy settings, and permission controls. We aim to explore integration with Amazon's ecosystem through an eligible Alexa+ development or simulation approach.
Challenges we ran into
One of our main challenges is designing a system that balances intelligent automation with user privacy. We also need to determine the appropriate integration methods, enforce permissions securely, and make the interface easy to understand for users with different levels of technical knowledge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We developed the concept for a privacy-first AI security experience that puts user authorization at the center of smart home interactions. We are focused on turning this idea into a demonstrable prototype with a clear purpose and practical applications.
What we learned
We learned that building a useful AI security solution involves more than generating intelligent responses. It also requires thoughtful access control, transparent system behavior, and clear boundaries around sensitive actions.
What's next for Sentinel HomeGuard AI
Our next steps are to build and test the prototype, implement permission checks, improve the user interface, and explore supported Amazon integrations. Our long-term vision is to make smart home security more intelligent, transparent, and privacy-conscious.
