Inspiration
Emotions are one of the most powerful forces shaping human behaviour, yet they are often invisible, misunderstood, or only recognized once they become overwhelming. Many people with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, autism, or borderline personality disorder struggle to identify and regulate emotional states in real time.
Using "clairempathy”, the ability to perceive and understand emotions more clearly. What if technology could make emotions visible? What if people could detect emotional signals in themselves and others the way we perceive sound or light?
Our product, SENTIMENTI, explores this speculative extra-sensory perception: the ability to sense emotional states through physiological and auditory sensory feedback, enabling users to understand and regulate emotions before they escalate.
What it does
SENTIMENTI is an emotional awareness and mental wellness tool that visualizes emotional states through sensory feedback and data visualization.
The system translates physiological signals—such as:
- heart rate
- blood pressure
- skin conductance
- stress indicators
The tool helps users:
- detect rising stress or emotional escalation early
- track emotional patterns over weeks and months
- develop healthier coping mechanisms
- improve emotional awareness and regulation
SENTIMENTI can also allow consensual emotional sharing, helping users become more aware of emotional dynamics in social interactions.
How we built it
SENTIMENTI was designed as a high-fidelity interactive prototype handcrafted with Figma.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was visualizing emotions in a way that is both intuitive and meaningful.
Emotions are complex and multidimensional, so we had to balance simplicity vs. accuracy as well as useful insights vs. information overload.
Another challenge was designing for privacy and consent when representing other people’s emotions. Because emotional data is highly sensitive, we needed to carefully consider how emotional perception could be shared responsibly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Key accomplishments include:
- Creating a cohesive speculative design around the concept of clairempathy
- Designing an accessible emotional visualization system
- Building a complete user journey within a high-fidelity Figma prototype
- Integrating wellness interventions such as breathing exercises and calming sound feedback
What we learned
Our team learned the fun interplay between speculative and real design. There are new ways of thinking about technology and human perception.
