EMPOWERING STUDENTS THROUGH MENTORSHIP AND RESOURCES

Inspiration

The inspiration for Sensei was gained from the long gap we have in access to quality mentorship and resources for students worldwide, particularly those who can't afford it and from underprivileged backgrounds. We saw that many students faced challenges in finding some type of guidance and support for their career or just development in general. This encouraged us to make a platform that could potentially bridge this gap and provide students with the tools they need to succeed.

What it does

Sensei is a complex platform which is designed with a user-friendly interface to connect students with mentors and provide quality resources. The platform offers a one-to-one mentor experience as well. Also, it provides an AI chatbot which can help you in college and university aspects. This platform also provides a student a way to find scholarships which are affordable and available to everyone. The resources that this application provides varies over many things like articles, guides, templates, and videos. Additionally, it is a place that fosters a supportive community as well.

How we built it

We started this project by making wireframes and designing UI interfaces using Figma. This resulted in a visually appealing layout for the platform. For the development of the website, we did plan to use VS Code and Github to publish the site and its codes. The code itself was React for the front end and Node.js for the back end. For the database we suggested MongoDB. To make sure that the site is bug-free and user-friendly, we would do extensive testing as well once the website is completed.

Challenges we ran into

Throughout the process of mainly designing we did face a few problems as well. One major problem was the time constraint. Because of this we did have some problems and ran short in time as well in some aspects. Another problem would be to make it as easy as possible for the user to navigate and integrating various features into the design. Theoretically, it will also be a bit hard to code the community section as well and to make sure the User engagement exists. Some problems that might be challenging that could occur in the future would be the automation of some of the site content such as for the scholarship finder and such. In summary, we actually didn't face that many challenges the only major one being time constraints.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the results we achieved as of now such as the wireframe and the UI interface for the site. This platform develops a sense of support and community among students.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we learned the importance of effective collaboration and what a team can accomplish. With that, we also learned how to overcome technical challenges as well. The project has helped us enhance our skills as well as our proficiency in using applications for its development.

What's next for Sensei

The future of Sensei looks bright, and we plan to make the website live and fully launch it. With that out of the way, we would start establishing relations with our partners which would be mainly education institutions. For further user outreach, we would also develop a mobile version of this application. With that, we also plan to add more features as well such as a section for the community to talk and gather and just share their experiences and problems. Overall, Sensei aims to be a pivotal tool in the educational journey for students worldwide regardless of their background and to make students succeed.
