Inspiration

It is well known that as a society we are living much longer thanks to improved living conditions and health care. While being able to reach old age is something to be thankful for, in many ways, there are several challenges facing the elderly, which we all need to pay more attention to. Often it is not until we start to age ourselves or we see a loved one struggling that we sit up and take notice, but as a society, we can do more to make life easier for our aging population. This article outlines the biggest challenges that elderly people face today and how we can support them and enable them to age with dignity.

What it does

Our Artificial Intelligence based cameras will enhance the security provided at homes. Our very own wearable device can monitor their vitals, so that even people living alone will get timely medical assistance. The emergency button which activates on impact can alert their family or friends of their plight. A customized text-to-speech option can help them in reading the daily newspaper and their favorite books. No more missed timings for medicines as our app reminds you of them on time. Regular medical checkups are also prompted when due.

How we built it

First, through various brainstorming and online meetings we gave our idea a basic structure. Then we divided the work among each other, some dealt with the prototyping, some writing the contents. We made a presentation using google slides so that all could work on it and make necessary changes. We used Google Meet for brainstorming and meetings. Constant Communication made this project possible.

Challenges we ran into

As we were beginners, it did consume a whole lot of time to learn the basics of figma. Even if the idea and its workflow are ready, it would still take up enough time, work and knowledge for the model to be functional.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We gained considerable knowledge in such a short span of time. For us, this was their first hackathon and the experience was great. We started off knowing nothing and now we sure have made ourselves proud by gaining some knowledge on machine learning and employing it in our project.

What we learned

The things we learnt were innumerable. We never thought that we could learn in such a short time. w We learnt the basics of figma and got to work on this project using this. The experience of working remotely as a team was fascinating and gave a lot of insights.
