When we first moved to fredericton we noticed two problems that we came across a lot. We noticed that a big population here were seniors (80% or more) who could use assistance and many young people were struggling to find meaningful volunteer opportunities and hours. We decided to solve both of these problems simultaneously by connecting seniors and volunteers through SeniorLink; an application that connects both these parties using AI tools.

We added AI-powered tools to make SeniorLink easier and smarter to use. Seniors can describe what they need in their own words, and the AI helps turn their request into a structured task. Our AI matching system can then help connect the request with suitable volunteers based on factors such as location, availability, task type, and preferences.

We built SeniorLink as a mobile-first platform with separate experiences for seniors and volunteers. Seniors can create requests through simple forms or by describing what they need, while volunteers can browse and accept nearby opportunities. We designed an AI-powered matching system to connect requests with suitable volunteers based on factors such as location, availability, task type, and preferences.

One of our biggest challenges was designing an experience that works for two very different groups of users. We wanted the app to be simple enough for seniors to use while still providing enough information and functionality for volunteers.

We're proud that we turned a real community problem into a working concept with a clear two-sided solution. Instead of building just another volunteer platform, we connected two problems that can solve each other:

We learned that solving a problem isn't just about adding technology. We needed to understand the people using the product and design around their actual needs. We learned the importance of simplicity, trust, and privacy, especially when designing for seniors.

Our next step is to test SeniorLink with real seniors, volunteers, and community organizations in Fredericton and gather feedback. Our long-term vision is to make SeniorLink a community support network across Atlantic Canada, helping seniors remain independent while making it easier for people to find meaningful ways to give back.
