Senioritis

Inspiration

"One in four Americans aged 65+ falls each year. Every 11 seconds, an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall; every 19 minutes, an older adult dies from a fall. Falls are the leading cause of fatal injury and the most common cause of nonfatal trauma-related hospital admissions among older adults." I personally think elderly care is an extremely important aspect of human civilization that's extremely overlooked.

What it does

Predicts senior's falls a week in advance. Link the research paper:

How I built it

Deep learning pose estimation, then calculating the cos angle.

Challenges I ran into

The Jetbot didn't work, the wifi didn't let you ssh into it

building it, learning something totally new and out of my comfort zone:

How to calculate dot products, sum, add, multiply, vectors, how accelerators worked, how pose-estimation worked, alwaysAI!

What's next for Senioritis

My family friend owns a few senior homes in Toronto, would love to do some market research, roll it out, and get some feedback. Then, perhaps implement a RNN/LSTM + CNN neural network to be able to use machine learning to carry out this same concept with higher accuracy, but that can only be done with increases in available data.
