Inspiration
Many senior citizens quietly struggle with stress and loneliness, but it often goes unnoticed hidden behind a smile, or dismissed by the people around them. We wanted to build something simple and approachable that helps seniors check in on their own mental well-being and gives them real tools to feel better, not just awareness.
What it does
SeniorCalm for Seniors is a website built specifically for senior citizens to:
- Take a simple, friendly quiz to check their current stress levels
- Practice guided meditations to relax and calm their mind
- Use a drawing feature to express themselves creatively
- Access a supportive space designed around their needs, not a generic mental health app
How we built it
We built the site using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript on Bolt, focusing on a clean, senior-friendly interface with large text, simple navigation, and minimal clutter. The quiz calculates a stress score based on responses, the meditation section offers guided calm-down exercises, and the drawing tool lets users doodle freely as a creative outlet.
Challenges we ran into
- Making the interface simple and accessible enough for seniors who may not be tech-savvy
- Balancing a meaningful stress-check quiz with something quick and non-intimidating
- Designing calming visuals and interactions that feel personal, not clinical
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built a working prototype that combines assessment, relaxation, and creativity in one cohesive experience
- Designed with genuine empathy for a group that's often overlooked in mental health tech
What we learned
- How to design for accessibility and a non-technical, older audience
- That mental health tools work best when they feel simple and warm, not clinical
What's next for SeniorCalm for Seniors
- Adding personalized meditation recommendations based on quiz results
- Adding a family/caregiver check-in feature so loved ones can offer support.
