Senior Shield Project Story

Inspiration

The genesis of the Senior Shield project was deeply personal—inspired by the challenges faced by our own elders in navigating modern technology. Witnessing their struggles, we were driven to create a solution that could empower seniors to easily use and benefit from essential smartphone functions.

What it does

Senior Shield is a minimalist-designed app that prioritizes simplicity for seniors. It offers features like reserving appointments with caretakers, making calls, and accessing emergency assistance with a single click. The app also serves as a helpful reminder for daily tasks, such as medication reminders, encouraging walks, and appointment alerts.

How we built it

Our development process involved utilizing a blend of technologies, including Xcode, Apache Cordova, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Visual Studio Code. This mix allowed us to create an adaptable and robust application catering to the unique needs of the elderly.

Challenges we ran into

Throughout the project as freshman in computer science, we faced typical coding challenges such as errors and debugging issues. These hurdles, though formidable, were overcome through collaboration and persistent effort. Each challenge presented an opportunity for learning and improvement.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The successful creation of Senior Shield stands out as a significant accomplishment. The app embodies a user-friendly design coupled with essential features, reflecting our commitment to positively impacting the lives of seniors.

What we learned

Senior Shield became a valuable learning ground for us freshman in computer science, particularly in the realm of user interface design. Working with diverse coding languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript expanded our skills and knowledge, contributing to the creation of a seamless and accessible application.

Furthermore, I took on the task of helping craft the interface for our application, an endeavor that marked my inaugural experience in this domain, providing me with invaluable lessons.
