Inspiration

One of our teammate's grandmother was suffering from cancer. We wanted to make an app that would let senior citizens like her connect with the outside world and get help from others even when they are unable to get out of bed.

What it does

The Senior Companion App provides a hub for seniors to access information and activities personalized to them concerning their health, cognition, and interaction with other people. This app addresses the need to enhance their wellbeing.

How we built it

We used a combination of ChatGPT and our own knowledge of building websites to create this app.

Challenges we ran into

We faced many struggles when incorporating ChatGPT into our app. For example, when trying to ask ChatGPT for CSS code for a more aesthetically appealing website, it would mess up the structure of the headings, links, buttons, and text both what the AI and ourselves previously implemented.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Some features in our app that we are proud of include the registration page and ease of navigation of the app. Another feature we are proud of is the form submit button at the bottom of the registration page, as we experienced some challenges with allowing the button to link to other html files. We wanted to make sure seniors could easily learn how to use the app to interact with their community, and we believe we succeeded in that regard.

What we learned

We learned how to effectively prompt ChatGPT, as well as how to balance coding with ChatGPT use, as using the AI too much caused us to waste time afterwards when trying to fix bugs. When using HTML, we learned about new features that we could use in the code such as "URLSearchParams" and "UserMessage". We also learned to work together as a team and to allow each team member to contribute their own ideas.

What's next for Senior Companion App

We hope to expand the app by connecting to online servers, implementing new features, and integrating other relevant apps to better aid seniors. We also want to include more AI features in order to allow seniors to get information that is more relevant to them and recognize crime in their community.
