Inspiration

When I moved, I wanted to get rid of a lot of stuff. I thought reselling would be easy, but I quickly ran into friction. I spent hours writing product descriptions, researching prices, and tracking items. It was slow and overwhelming.

I kept thinking: there has to be a smarter, faster way to sell secondhand—so I built it.

Sell It was born out of personal frustration, but the problem is far from unique. The global resale market is projected to reach $367 billion by 2029, with Gen Z driving the shift toward more sustainable, circular consumption.

While there are great tools for discovering and comparing secondhand items, there is a gap on the selling side. Few tools actually support individuals trying to list their items with ease.

Sell It eliminates that friction. It helps anyone participate in the resale movement by making it effortless to give their items a second life. It’s not just about convenience—it’s about accelerating the shift toward secondhand as the default.

What it does

Sell It is an AI-powered resale assistant that helps users turn personal items into ready-to-sell listings in seconds.

Upload a photo, and the app:

  • Detects the item category & brand
  • Enhances the image
  • Generates a compelling title, description, hashtags, and fair price
  • Suggest the most appropriate resale platform
  • Provides an Insights page with visual dashboards for revenue, platform performance, and other key metrics.
  • Provides a public resale page showcasing everything currently for sale.

How we built it

  • App fully built within Bolt.new environment.
  • App deployed with Bolt.new via Netlify with IONOS domain name.
  • Frontend & UI: Styled with modern responsive components.
  • OpenAI API: Used GPT to analyze item photos and generate rich listing content.
  • Supabase: Managed user authentication and item storage with a relational backend.

Bolt Hackathon Challenges

  • Custom Domain Setup: Connected a custom domain purchased on IONOS to an app deployed via Bolt.
  • Deployment Challenge: Deployed the app using Netlify through Bolt, ensuring smooth integration with the custom domain.
  • Backend Implementation: Built the backend and database layer using Supabase to handle authentication, storage, and data operations.

Challenges we ran into

  • Ambitious Automation Goals: I initially aimed to create an AI agent that could post listings directly to resale platforms, but most marketplaces either don’t offer public APIs or restrict posting from individual accounts.

  • AI Agent Limitations: I explored using OpenAI Agents SDK and browser-based automation (like AI web agents), but these approaches either required unreliable hacks (like mimicking user behavior) or created security concerns.

  • Staying Within Bolt’s Constraints: Bolt is a powerful platform, but combining advanced backend logic, AI integration, deploys, and third-party services in one place required careful planning.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Solving a real, personal problem with a concept that’s not only useful but has potential to scale into a business.
  • Building a fully functional MVP, complete with a clean UI, user flows, and live deployment on Bolt.
  • Seamlessly integrating AI-powered content generation, allowing users to create professional-quality listings with just a photo and a few clicks.

What we learned

  • The power of building entirely inside Bolt’s environment.
  • How to combine Bolt.new, OpenAI, Supabase into a cohesive, full-stack application.
  • How small UX touches—like listing previews and public share pages—make a big difference in user experience.

What's next for Sell It

🤝 Resale Platform Partnerships We plan to integrate with resale platforms to automate publishing listings directly. Some platforms such as Vinted (with partner API access) offer integration points for partners that would allow us to streamline cross-posting.

💸 Monetization Users will get 3 free listings, with paid plans unlocking more uploads and premium features.

📱 Mobile App A mobile app will make it easier to snap, upload, and manage listings on the go. It will support mobile-friendly features like camera input and sharing.
