Inspiration
Our group was inspired by Pokémon go and google glasses. Both of these projects had something in common - AR, or augmented reality, which is a relatively new technology. While brainstorming for the Hackathon ideas, we thought that properly applying this technology can boost many existing platforms/businesses.
What it does
In the used-items market, it is very difficult, if not impossible to get a refund. Therefore it is crucial for an individual to make the right decision when buying a used item. Our project enables people to make more informed decisions by showing the actual 3D models of the products on their phones.
How we built it
These are the steps we followed in building our prototypes. First, we found a platform named echo3D that allows us access to simple AR technology (it gives a QR code that shows a 3D model on the camera when scanned). Second, we made sure there existed a technology that allows our users to create 3D models only using their phones. Finally, with adobeXD, we made a prototype (or a pseudo-application) of 'sellAR'.
Challenges we ran into
We didn't have a single hard-core coder. Also, this was our first time joining a business hackathon.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite not having a coder, we were able to build a prototype with our business idea. We were able to get out of our comport zone and try out new tech platforms like echo3D.
What we learned
It's a business hackathon, idea is what matters most.
What's next for sellAR
We would like to expand the augmented reality feature so that users could scroll through items in 3D.
