Inspiration

This story was inspired by that unforgettable interview question—“Sell me this pen.” It began as a real slice of life: a recent graduate in Bangalore, stuck between ambition and bills, driving a cab while waiting for opportunity. The project draws from every awkward interview, every moment of self‑doubt, and the quiet humor of trying to make life work when nothing goes as planned.

What it does

Sell Me This Pen is a short narrative film that follows Raj, a young man on an unexpected journey from cab driver to job candidate. The project blends AI‑generated visuals, realistic voice performances, and human storytelling to portray resilience, humor, and the subtle art of confidence under pressure.

How I built it

The story first began as a short piece I wrote and published on Medium in May titled "Sell Me This Pen". After seeing how many people related to it, I decided to turn it into a short AI‑driven film.

I started by creating the base video using LTX Studio, which allowed me to generate cinematic scenes directly from my script. LTX Studio handled the initial framing, lighting, and camera movements—giving the story a strong visual foundation.

Once the base was ready, I adjusted or re‑created several scenes using Dreamina by CapCut, Luma Labs and Veo3, depending on where I needed more realism or emotional tone.

For narration, Sync.so and Dreamina helped refine pacing and flow, while ElevenLabs powered both the expressive voiceovers and background music.

This blend of creative control and generative experimentation made the project feel both cinematic and deeply personal—bridging writing and visual storytelling through AI.

Challenges I ran into

Balancing emotional authenticity with AI generation was a real test. Ensuring consistency in character visuals, syncing voiceovers to motion, and keeping a grounded tone took several rounds of trial and error. At times, even making a specific character speak was tricky—the AI couldn’t always recognize who I wanted to deliver the line, so I had to manually adjust cues and regenerate scenes until it matched perfectly. Each fix taught me more about the limits and quirks of dialogue-based AI.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Transforming a real‑life experience into a cinematic short was immensely satisfying. The project successfully blends humor, realism, and emotional subtlety in a way that feels both personal and universal. It demonstrated how generative tools can amplify true human creativity rather than replace it.

What we learned

Working on Sell Me This Pen proved that storytelling matters more than the medium. Whether using AI, a camera, or a cab’s rear‑view mirror—what connects people is honesty, relatability, and emotion. It also deepened understanding of prompt design, pacing, and natural‑sounding voice generation.

What's next for Sell Me This Pen

Future plans include refining the visuals with dynamic motion enhancement, adding subtitles for wider accessibility, dubbing in other languages, and expanding the concept into a short series exploring everyday resilience. The goal is to keep experimenting—merging human heart with machine imagination.
