We were inspired to make Self Space because we discovered that with the transition to online school due to the pandemic, students were experiencing deteriorating mental health. Thus, we decided to create a website that promoted healthy study habits and also ensuring that students were taking care of their mental health.

Self Space is a website that promotes mental health care among youth with an emphasis on education. Students are able to study using multiple time management techniques while also being able to care for their mental health. Our website provides a mental health track with 4 different mental health care activities and a studying track with 4 different study methods. Self Space uses a point system where students can receive a mental health point for every mental health care activity they do or a study point for every study session they complete. By setting daily goals to reach a certain amount of points, they can keep track of their studying progress while also ensuring that they are receiving the necessary care for their mental health. In addition, we included a section where students can journal in order to reflect on the day, which allows students to build healthy habits.

We built Self Space using HTML, CSS, and Javascript on the online IDE, replit.com.

Over the course of the hackathon, we ran into many challenges. The most prevalent of the challenges was positioning. In addition, as we were collaborating for this project, there was a need to understand each of our team members coding style.

We are proud of our entire website. This is our first hackathon and the product was a useful resource for students to promote productive studying habits while also maintaining their mental health. We are especially proud of each of the features namely the wellness center and the journal as they provide a point system that rewards healthy studying and mental health care.

We have become more well-versed with web development and have also learned about effective study methods and mental health activities

We hope to buy a domain for this website in order to reach more students in hopes that they can benefit from this resource both academically and for their mental health.
