An ESP32 microcontroller reads motion data from an MPU6050 accelerometer and gyroscope module. When measured motion meets the prototype's configurable detection criteria, the firmware transitions into an emergency state.
The planned emergency response includes a local audible/visual alarm, a Wi-Fi access point, and a browser-based emergency information portal hosted directly on the ESP32.
The ESP32 also is connected to a local network of other SeismicSense's conversing between each other if one is in Emergency State
ESP32 and MPU6050 along with other standard electronic parts
The MPU6050 was a clone chip, so we couldn't use the ADAFruit Library. In addition we ran into some soldering issues. Debugging code was also something that we had to do.
We have a working demo that does what we wanted it to do in the initial drafts.
Better breadboarding habits, how to utilize SoftAP from the ESP32, and how to utilize gyroscopes and accelerometers.
We hope to have a built mockup in the future.
