Inspiration

Back in my home, India, many earthquakes have struck the land. Due to this, many people have died from re-entering buildings that were still unstable. I wanted to solve this problem and make a project that TELLS us whether the buildings are stable or not. Using various sensors and a well built app, my goal was to protect each person that has suffered through Earthquakes.

What it does

Using my Arduino project, my app detects senses of an earthquake. It brings all of this information to your phone while also shutting off water, gas, and other materials being piped into your house. This will prevent excessive damage while also keeping your protected. Also, it will continue to sense the outsides, contact 911, and keep working to determine whether your building is safe or not.

How I built it

I originally built the Arduino and wrote the code in C++. After testing it's functionality, I was able to connect it to the Native iOS app that I built with Swift. I connected multiple API's and developed complex in-built algorithms that convert the data into a user friendly voice. I also made sure to add detailed simulations in the app that help the user truly understand what would happen in an earthquake occurred. I also used the Google Cloud Console and the Firebase Console to make a server Google sign in. Last but not least, I used Supabase to make a cloud data storage so other's could share ideas through this native iOS app.

Challenges I ran into

The BIGGEST challenge that I ran into was making sure that the Arduino was working. This single-handedly took about 5 hours out of my time at this hackathon. I kept running into errors with the wiring and the code. Overall, I was able to make it work while also connecting it to my app!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am VERY proud of my Arduino that I have made. This Arduino took about 5 hours of dedicated work and nonstop testing. It is by far the most complex Arduino that I have made and I believe that it can truly benefit the world by its detection. Another MAJOR accomplishment that I am proud of is the advanced algorithms that I made. These algorithms connect the JSON from the Arduino into user-understandable text.

What I learned

I learned how to use more complex parts in the Arduino such as resistor-wiring and stepper-motors. I learned how to use photo-resistors and electrodes to aid the current flow into this app. Overall, I learned a lot about Arduino mechanics and the many functions of Native Swift.

What's next for Seismic

I want my app to natively work in Android along with iOS. I also want to make a 3D case that makes the Arduino look professional instead of a bunch of wires. Overall, I plan to fine tune this app to make it MUCH better and more detailed
