Inspiration

We’re living in an era where misinformation spreads faster than facts. Most readers don’t have the time or tools to analyze bias in news articles. We wanted to create something that empowers people to see through media bias and become more critical news consumers.

What it does

SeeThru is a Chrome extension that detects and explains political bias in real time. When you read an article, it shows a bias spectrum bar, a quick explanation of why the content leans a certain way, key claims, and sources for verification. It’s designed to be simple, fast, and transparent, so readers can form their own opinions with context.

How we built it

We created an extension that scrapes the current webpage and prompts google gemini to detect bias and give logical reasoning as to why certain lines from the article may be biased to give the user a more clear perspective.

Challenges we ran into

Designing an interface that is clear but not overwhelming was a difficult task, as well as learning how to make a google extension as it was a project that none of us had tried before.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of how we split the tasks evenly to ensure that we completed all out work in due time.

What we learned

We learned how to make a google extension.

What's next for SeeThru

We would like to work on incorporating different language modes in order to eliminate biases due to translation issues, etc.
