What it does

Allows artists to be SEEN by scouting galleries and people who are invested in the same social issues and causes as them, enables artists to share their work publicly online, allows users to read about social issues, strengthens and nurtures the communication between local events/galleries and artists, provides a place for people to discuss about social issues in the context of artwork

How we built it

Figma, paper prototyping

Challenges we ran into

Time constraints, flow

Accomplishments that we're proud of

First designathon, accomplished a lot of things under a few hours, resilience

What we learned

High fidelity prototypes take longer than expected, need to be thorough, the reality of starting an app from scratch, hands-on experience of design process but in 2 days

What's next for seen

Finish lo-fi's for every screen, finish hi-fi's + prototype for portfolio sharing

What is the problem your solution addresses?

Our problem addresses the ignorance that surrounds modern-day societal issues. Although art is an excellent medium for these issues, even artists feel that nothing much has been done to make audiences aware of social issues, advocating for a sustainable place to store their ideas.

The primary way for artists to get “noticed” is through subjective connections with galleries and other artists. Relying on self-promotion to earn a living, artists often feel too embarrassed, awkward, or intimidated to publicly share their work online to a vast audience. They would like a way for galleries to reach out to artists and their thoughts on social issues. Also, artists often attribute their success and self-worth to their popularity on social media, as measured by like and follower counts.

Popular art-sharing competitors like DeviantArt and Dribbble mainly focus on the visual aspect of art/design, lacking forums and tags to converse about social issues.

Why did you pick this solution? How does it address the problem?

We chose to create a semi-professional social platform app because they are used as an explicit and accessible outlet for artists to share their work and reach massive audiences.

By narrowing the scope of media to social issues and eliminating the like and follower count, this app is a public platform that provides a safe, convicting community for artists and non-artists to freely express themselves through powerful forms of art about modern-day societal issues, alleviating self-promotion and social media pressures since they’ll be sharing to a genuinely-interested audience . This app gives hidden artists exposure through daily randomized systems (10 artists daily), discussive articles about social issues under a news category, and promotions of events/galleries under a discovery category.

Our app fosters an educational space where anyone can discuss and explore thought-provoking artworks or relevant issues. The greatest benefit of it all is that users enlighten themselves in astonishingly creative ways.
