Inspiration
As Computer Science / STEM majors we deal with failures to our code, midterms, and just general life. So, in order to combat this, we created "Seek Help" as a website in which they could turn to either to laugh at the funny prompts and AI usage, or just for help in general.
What it does
We wanted to have fun with our project as we were new to hackathons, so we made a light-hearted approach to the topic of seeking online life advice. There are buttons stating different emotional states that will give random responses; if the user wants to enter a more complex response, then ChatGPT can respond to that.
How we built it
We used HTML for most of the front-end development and Python with Flask & ChatPGT as the backend. This allowed us to run a website from our local host.
Challenges we ran into
We wanted to implement ChatGPT into our website and curate an unconventional yet appropriate response to the user. Hence, we needed to learn how to use training models and API calls.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are satisfied with a simple yet complete project. While it may not be the best innovative project to solve a problem, it was still fun while challenging ourselves with unfamiliar content and a time constraint. One thing we were proud of was getting our ChatGPT to finally work after feeding data through the training model, which felt like we were raising our own pets.
What we learned
Some of us were unfamiliar with the coding languages needed to create this project. However, this group project allowed us to further develop and hone those skills while learning something new. Our project helped with creating demos, selling our pitches, researching, and time management & technical skills.
What's next for Seek Help
We joined KnightHacks as first-time hackers and ended off with more confidence in our skills. All our experiences here will continue on with our journey in the future.
