Inspiration
Our team wanted to create a code that would make the world a better world, thus we decided to focus on integrating others. We thought that we could help people with visual disabilities by helping them in their daily routines.
What it does
SeeForMe leverages cutting-edge technologies to provide real-time object detection and navigation assistance for individuals with visual or mobility impairments. By using real time object detection and voice feedback, it helps users identify nearby objects like bottles, chairs, stop signs, or cell phones, ensuring they can navigate their environment safely and confidently. The system integrates voice commands for interaction, empowering users to activate or deactivate the vision system, and even request turn-by-turn directions to specific destinations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of having created a tool that enhances accessibility for individuals with disabilities. This is also multifunctional by integrating object detection, navigation, and voice interaction into one cohesive solution. And finally, we are proud that we managed to provide users with timely and accurate feedback to help them navigate their surroundings safely.
What we learned
We came to realize the real challenges that people with disabilities (in our case with vision deficiencies) in their everyday lives and the hassle that it can be to get from one place to the other safely. On the more technical side, we were happy to have gotten hands-on experience in working with APIs and many libraries in Python.
What's next for SeeForMe
In the future, we hope that we will be able to create a mobile app for SeeForMe to provide a more user-friendly experience to our users. Due to time constraints, we had to limit ourselves to several objects, in the future, we would hope to increase the number of recognizable objects, making it even more versatile for users. Moreover, in the same idea as to include everyone in our society, it would be great to add support for multiple languages to cater to a global audience.
