Inspiration
The inspiration behind Seedlink was born from our deep-rooted passion for fostering a community that genuinely cares about the environment and the plants that sustain it. We envisioned a platform where individuals could easily determine the optimal plants for their specific soil or space, ensuring that every plant thrives in its perfect environment and by integrating rewards for nurturing plants and providing a space for users to connect with one another, Seedlink aims to cultivate a sense of belonging and shared purpose among plant enthusiasts.
Our commitment to sustainability and innovation drives us to create technology that not only empowers individuals but also promotes environmental stewardship. Seedlink is more than just a tool—it's a movement towards a greener, more connected world.
What it does
Seedlink is an innovative platform dedicated to creating a thriving community of plant enthusiasts who care deeply about the environment. Our technology allows users to determine the optimal plants for their specific soil or space, ensuring that every plant can grow in its ideal conditions; this is done by providing valuable insights and recommendations, Seedlink empowers users to make informed decisions about their gardening endeavors.
Additionally, Seedlink offers rewards for users who diligently take care of their plants, fostering a sense of accomplishment and encouraging sustainable practices. Through our platform, users can connect with like-minded individuals, share experiences, and build a supportive network of plant lovers who are committed to making the world a greener place.
How we built it
Seedlink was born from a shared vision during this hackathon, where our team came together with a passion for innovation and environmental stewardship. Utilizing state-of-the-art sensors from our home university (Leeds Beckett), we designed and prototyped a platform that provides actionable insights for optimal plant care.
Throughout the process, we focused on creating a community, incorporating features that reward users for taking care of their plants and facilitate connections with like-minded individuals. Seedlink is a testament to the power of collaboration and our commitment to making the world a greener place.
Challenges we ran into
During our journey to build Seedlink, we encountered several challenges that tested our problem-solving skills and resilience. One significant hurdle was getting the WiFi to connect reliably with our laptops, which caused delays in our development process.
Additionally, our 3D printing efforts made us have to contact one of our outside friends, so we would be able to get all of the printing done in time. Lastly, we faced issues with the camera module, which refused to function properly, requiring extensive troubleshooting and adjustments. Despite these obstacles, our team’s determination and collaborative spirit helped us overcome them and bring Seedlink to life.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
During the development of Seedlink, we achieved several accomplishments that we're incredibly proud of. Firstly, we managed to meet all of our set goals before the submission deadline, developing an extensive app that integrated various AI APIs, showcasing our technical expertise, innovative approach as well as demonstrating our efficiency and dedication. Despite the camera module not functioning as expected, we did successfully got all the other sensors working seamlessly.
And most importantly, our team's collaboration was exceptional; we worked cohesively, supported one another, and overcame challenges together, making the journey both productive and rewarding. These achievements are a testament to our hard work, commitment, and the strong sense of teamwork that defined our project.
What we learned
During the development of Seedlink, we learned several valuable coding lessons. We deepened our understanding of integrating sensor data with various software components, ensuring seamless communication between hardware and software and APIs, expanding our knowledge for practical applications. This was accompained by the (painful) building of patience and resilience when tackling issues during debugging and troubleshooting.
