Submission Track: Future of work – edu tech on blockchain; job market solutions for Web3 professionals and beyond
Inspiration - Idea
Motivator
- We like the idea of NFT being:
- a reliable way to showcase one’s credentials
- interoperability
- We like being able to redefine our identity in Web3.0. No need to disclose gender, ethnicity etc. just be recognise by your skill, which is the ONLY thing that matters.
De-motivator
- We find it tough to identify/ evaluate a developer from Upwork/ Fiverr (the profile are all self-claimed, limited comparison key metrics)
- We do not like how LinkedIn works: no privacy, unverifiable experiences, no control over own data
These inspire us to create SEED, a career platform that utilize the specialty of NFT for users to identify the trustworthy parties. They could also bring their credentials along with them when they are ‘travelling’ around Web3.0.
What it does - Idea/ Impact
SEED is an upgrade from LinkedIn and Upwork combined, by using NFTs in creative ways, we proudly present our key features:
- Verifiable Education/ Work Experience - Users sending request, Organisations to verify and mint token.
- Badges as a proof of attendance - Organisations to batch mint NFTs for the target recipients (Who attended your event, who being awarded the title to etc)
- Endorsement feature that shows how likeable are you and by who - Mint your endorsement and transfer the NFT to your recipient
Why does the market need our upgrade:
- Recognition: Redefine your identity by your credentials, not your name.
- Privacy: Users Own Their Data.
- Transition: Our product design ensure smooth transition from Web2 to Web3
- Reputation: A safeguard from misrepresentation. Especially for organisations to avoid someone faking employment history.
- Fast Due Diligence: Hire the right fit, fast.
- Milestone: Users could parade the glory badges to show their achievements.
- Influence: Organisations could show their proof-of-impact through the record of the collectors of their badges
- Interoperability: Show your credentials anywhere, anytime, forever.
How we built it - Tech/ Design
Each of us took responsibility based on our expertise: Front-end, Back-end, Smart Contracts, UI, UX, Branding & Marketing.
Business/ Non-Tech Consideration
- We chose this green as the branding colour, as the web has always been associated with green since 1.0
- To encourage Web2 users onboard, the UI/ UX should be designed in a way that they are familiar with
Tech Consideration
- Onboard Aurora as we are more familiar with Solidity
- All of the NFTs on our platform is non-transferrable to prevent the market of selling credentials
- There is two Smart Contracts on our platform one for the ERC-1155 (Glory Badge feature), one for the text-based ERC-721 (Experience and Endorsement Feature)
- We used ERC-1155 for the Glory Badges. It is easier for the organization to manage the issuance.
- We used text-based ERC_721 for the Education/ Work Experience, and Endorsement content so that it could fit into the UI of the platforms that the users wish to display onto.
Challenges we ran into
Solved:
- Integration of all aspect is challenging. Teammates have different knowledge foundation on blockchain technology.
- Frontend calls to the backend failed (because of mixed HTTPS content).
- Serving VUE.js on a web server caused some differences in the behaviour.
- Changing the logic in Smart Contract caused issues in the frontend and backend.
- How to balance out security and ease of use for the users.
Unsolved:
- Unable to display all NFTs of the users, can only display one network at once
Accomplishments that we're proud of - Design
- To create a platform that make sense for Web2.0 public to onboard
- To give NFTs more utility than being a mere speculative financial asset.
- Endorsement NFT idea. To seal one’s qualitative comments, and the value of this memory will increase over time.
- pass the authentication with cryptographic allgoritm,
- deploy Smart Contract on Aurora testnet (Able to build on NEAR with Solidity!)
- implement frontend to communicate with Smart Contract
- To connect Covalent API HALF AN HOUR before submission
- Diversity of the team - gender, ethnicity, language, age group
- How we work together despite timezone difference
What we learned -
There are lots of existing helpful tools in NEAR Ecosystem.
If Web3.0 wants to advance, the market is in need of training for the Web2.0 professionals to be able to work with one another at the same page (other than Web3 developers, it should include Product Designer, UI/UX designers, Front-end dev, Marketing etc.). Enabling a team with various expertise to work with one another, will bring along a possibility for an intuitive Web3.0 super app that is ready to serve the mass market.
What's next for SEED Web3 Career Hub - Sustainability
Funding: Look for funding to launch this product, and introduce the beta version to our existing community in Singapore and Malaysia.
On-board: Improve the academy side of the platform and onboard talents in the South-east Asia to get connected with Web3 jobs, internationally. We will be converting 700k Web2 Developers and 50k Computer Science students into our platform users. We are expecting the number of sign-ups to be growing steadily as the international remuneration package is generally speaking, very attractive to the SEA workforce. (Malaysia average web2 dev salary: USD1,560/month)
Scale: We aimed to convert the current Web2.0 profile users, which is 830million on LinkedIn onto SEED
End Goal: SEED potential does not limit to a career hub. It will grow into a place where the digital natives interact with one another with a peace of mind. We foresee in Web3.0, verifiable reputation and credentials are more important than ever. We hope to serve the Total Addressable Market of Web3.0 which is amounting to 1 billion users by 2030.
