Inspiration

Open source drone projects, voice recognition, and OpenCV facial recognition.

How it works

We want to create an automated security application that can benefit businesses and families alike. We are utilizing drones(UAVs), beacons, facial recognition, and voice recognition. This app is geared toward indoor spaces where GPS does not function well, e.g. large warehouses, hospitals, but can be used outdoor as well. A drone (or rc vehicle) with voice recognition capability will be used to patrol a given area over a preset path, marked by beacons. A human operator can override the preset path with voice commands, e.g. go to beacon 1. The drone's camera will have face tracking capability to focus on people in the area. The drone will stream videos back to a server, which can be displayed to the human operator as well. The videos will be processed by the server which is capable of facial recognition, and the human operator will be alerted of unauthorized persons for final analysis/confirmation. The operator can be notified via his monitor or via mobile devices/smart wearables.

Challenges I ran into

Getting everything to mesh design wise, including hardware, software, business plan.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Learning node.js and about drones.

What I learned

Sometimes the best idea comes from talking to people and find out what's missing in our lives. From there we can build something useful and meaningful.

What's next for Security drone with facial and voice recognition

Actually implementing the project at Launch Hackathon 2015. We will try to finish the project and hopefully gain some notice from the VCs.
