Inspiration
The inspiration stemmed from a real-world problem: a user’s frustration while reporting a cybercrime through the outdated 1930 helpline. With cybercrimes rising by 24%, existing reporting systems are overwhelmed, causing delays in investigations. The idea behind CyberSecure is to provide victims with a lifeline and resources to protect themselves, report crimes efficiently, and access support easily.
What it does
Simplifies cybercrime reporting through an easy-to-use Android app. Provides in-app tutorials and resources to educate users about online safety. Facilitates seamless communication between victims and authorities, ensuring real-time updates on case statuses. Collects data to help authorities analyze cybercrime trends and improve response times.
How we built it
Frontend: Developed using Flutter for a smooth and intuitive user experience. Backend: Built with Firebase to manage secure user data and communication. User Research: Conducted surveys and interviews with 25 cyber fraud victims to gather quantitative and qualitative data on their struggles. Security: Integrated robust communication protocols to protect user data during reporting and interactions with authorities.
Challenges we ran into
Managing the large volume of data securely, especially when handling sensitive information like user reports. Ensuring real-time synchronization of reports between users and law enforcement authorities. Designing an interface that caters to a diverse audience, from tech-savvy individuals to older users unfamiliar with cybersecurity practices.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully created a user-friendly tool that accelerates the reporting process for cybercrime victims. Streamlined the 1930 helpline process, allowing faster investigations and improved communication between victims and authorities. Positive feedback from users who found the app significantly easier to use compared to traditional reporting methods.
What we learned
User-centric design is key: understanding user frustrations and needs led to the creation of a more effective tool.
