Inspiration

Being from Alabama, the digital divide is all around me. Whether it be people my age or my grandmother, access to the Internet in the rural South is a huge problem. I have done digital literacy workshops working directly with elders and I have firsthand heard about the number of elderly people that are easily targeted by cybersecurity scams and have lost thousands of dollars as a result. I wanted to create a way to ameliorate the problem that scams cause for the elderly population.

What it does

SecureGuard AI is a cybersecurity platform designed specifically for elderly users. It provides real-time protection against digital threats like phishing and malware, with an easy-to-use interface that simplifies complex security tasks. The platform offers personalized learning experiences, helping users build confidence in their digital skills while ensuring they understand essential cybersecurity practices. I have additionally created a website that promotes digital literacy workshops, enabling elders to learn applicable information.

How we built it

Website built with figma, java, html, css. AI Product will utilize NLP, Machine Learning for Security Recommendations, Adaptive Learning Systems, Behavioral Analytics for Anomaly Detection, and Context-Aware Phishing Detection

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was creating an interface that is both powerful in functionality and simple enough for elderly users to navigate easily. Balancing robust security features with an intuitive design required extensive user testing and iteration. Another challenge was developing personalized learning modules that adapt to varying levels of digital literacy among users.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of successfully developing a platform that bridges the gap between robust cybersecurity and user accessibility.

What we learned

hrough this project, we learned the importance of empathy in design. Understanding the unique challenges faced by elderly users in the digital space guided our development process. We also learned how crucial it is to simplify cybersecurity without compromising on effectiveness, ensuring that even the least tech-savvy users can stay safe online.

What's next for SecureGuard AI

Next, we plan to expand SecureGuard AI by partnering with senior care organizations and community centers to reach a broader audience.
