Inspiration

According to WEF, cyber crimes are one of top 10 risks to humanity. Day by day there is an increase in cyber crimes. Women and kids are the easy target of such criminals. There are suicidal cases, killing and self harming due to cyber blackmailing, cyber harassment, identity theft and the list goes on. Women are mostly victimized. The number of cases in cyber crime is exponential. The attack surface has never been this much wider as now. And the reason behind this is lack of knowledge. Every person should be properly trained before entering cyberspace. To combat all these issues, we decided on providing an all in one solution, a startup aiming to provide psychological and legal help to the victims and to train the youth about end-user safety.

And that’s how Secure Purple came into being.

What it does

We are security researchers, educators and psychologists who create and curate personalized and customized curriculum around end user cyber safety. We center our curriculum on cyber hygiene, social media security, prevention of hacking, online safety, digital citizenship and digital well being.

You can access your curriculum along with resources and demos in app. The app have one of it's kind of cyber predator database where women/kids can submit their reports of any sort of cyber crime by adding the screenshot/pictures/vidoes. Any female/kid/public can search for any username, phone number before interacting anyone they met online to check their cyber crime history.

How we built it

Challenges we ran into

The curriculum accessing is one of our premier features. While the cyber predator database has some issues like people can go against Pakistan defamation laws. That's why we working on to add more filters to avoid defamation and accept only legitimate cyber crime cases.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

What we learned

The cyber crime reporting centers like FIA - Cyber Wing and DRF have 1000s of cases per day to deal with. Many of 90% of the cyber crimes are not even reported because of the family issues, personal privacy etc. That why we have created this database where verified users can submit their report against any cyber predator. So females and kids can search for usernames, accounts and phone number cyber crime history before they interact with anybody online.

We have learned that this database feature can be exploited for intentional defamation and that's why we are working to add more and more filter to legitimize the process of reporting. People can up vote or devote the submitted case as well.

What's next for Secure Purple

We are trying to work closely with FIA - Cyber wing and other independent digital rights organizations to make the submitted report accessible to them. This way they will focus more on escorting the cases rather than looking and monitoring for the legitimacy of the cases.
