Inspiration

Traditional document storage systems face challenges related to data privacy, unauthorized access, and manual document organization. We wanted to develop a secure, user-friendly digital locker that protects sensitive documents and makes them easier to search and retrieve.

What it does

Our system provides secure digital document storage using client-side encryption, automated metadata extraction, OCR for scanned documents, and metadata-based indexing. Authentication and authorization help prevent unauthorized access and enable controlled document retrieval.

How we built it

We designed a web-based document management system with a user interface, authentication, client-side encryption, document processing, metadata extraction, OCR, indexing, and secure storage. These components work together to support secure uploading, searching, and retrieving of documents.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating encryption with document uploading and retrieval, extracting useful metadata from different document formats, processing scanned documents using OCR, and enabling efficient searching while protecting document privacy were key challenges.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We developed a structured approach to secure document management that combines encryption, automated metadata processing, OCR, indexing, and access control. The project aims to improve document privacy, organization, and retrieval efficiency.

What we learned

We learned about client-side encryption, secure authentication, authorization, OCR, metadata extraction, indexing, and full-stack system integration. We also understood the importance of balancing data security, usability, and efficient document retrieval.

What's next

We plan to improve OCR accuracy, support more document formats, strengthen privacy-preserving key management, enhance search capabilities, add multi-factor authentication, and evaluate system performance and scalability with larger document collections.
