Inspiration
Every day, we throw away things like bottles, boxes, old shoes, broken umbrellas, and other household items that could still be useful. I wanted to create something simple that could help people think twice before throwing something away.
What it does
SecondLife lets you enter any unwanted household item. It uses AI to suggest a creative and practical way to reuse or upcycle it, gives simple steps, and explains the environmental benefit.
How I built it
I built SecondLife with Python and Streamlit and connected it to the OpenAI API to generate reuse ideas. I used GitHub for my code and deployed the web app with Streamlit Community Cloud.
Challenges I ran into
One of my biggest challenges was connecting the AI securely to the deployed web app. I learned how to use API keys, permissions, Streamlit Secrets, GitHub, and deployment while troubleshooting the application.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I started with a simple idea and turned it into a working AI-powered web application that anyone can open in a browser and try.
What I learned
I learned how to connect an AI API to a Python application, deploy a web app, manage API keys securely, and use Git and GitHub to manage my project.
What's next for SecondLife
Next, I would like to add photo recognition so users can take a picture of an item, generate multiple reuse ideas, save favorites, and share creative projects with the community.## Inspiration
