Inspiration
Whenever one of our friend's younger brothers entered high school in the fall of 2022, we realized that he had a hard time communicating with people he had never met before as there was a divide between their understanding on similar social cues and notions due to his autism. Because of this, we wished to develop this app to help people so that other people with slight mental or learning disabilities, that may be unfamiliar with social norms and other texting signals, could have clarity and be on the same page as others they conversate with, allowing both sides properly understand what is occurring or taking place.
What it does
Second Chance
How we built it
Second Chance
Challenges we ran into
Overall, there were several issues that we met over the course of development. DeSo's API was difficult to use, and the documentation was challenging to navigate. Training the sentiment analysis model took a great deal of time, and we needed intensive computational resources to finish within the allotted time frame. Additionally, the majority of our team was not experienced in web development or React JS, and over the course of the project we all became fluent in the language and framework.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Second Chance
What we learned
Throughout the course of this event, our team was able to successfully learn and use the Bootstrap and React JS frameworks in order to build a web application that could utilize the DeSo messaging API. Our teammates also learned how to train machine learning models, and subsequently link them up to our backend for our final product.
What's next for SecondChance
We plan to try to take SecondChance to market in the future as a platform that increases awareness and accessibitlity to better communication for all.
